Obasanjo lashes out at president Jonathan again...

Former Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo today took another swipe at the administration of Pres. Jonathan, accusing him and his government of depleting Nigeria's oil savings which according to him was at $45billion when he left office and had depreciated over time to $30billion. He made the accusations while receiving some South-West women leaders at his residence in Abeokuta, earlier today
"Our economy should not have been this bad. When I was leaving office about eight years ago, I left a very huge reserve after we had paid all our debts. Almost $25billion we kept in what they called excess crude. The excess from the budget we were saving as reserve for the rainy days. When we left in May 2007, the reserve was said to have been raised to $35billion. But today, that reserve has been depleted!
Today, that reserve has been depleted. The reserve we left when we finished paying all our debts, our debts that was about 40billion dollars, that is including debt forgiveness, the remaining debt was not more than $3billion. Our reserve after we had paid off this debt was about $45billion. As I said, they continued till the end of 2007, I heard that the reserve increased to almost $67billion before the end of the year. Our reserve now, learnt is left with around only $30billion. That is why the Naira has been falling against the dollar. What would now happen, I learnt if you want to buy a dollar now, it’s about N192 or N195. What it means is this, what you have been buying at N150 to a dollar, now you need N192 or N195 to buy it. That is the real situation. Is there any remedy? There is, but it does not come overnight because it means we have to give up all the bad things we have been doing. I know that God did not create Nigeria not to be rich or great. Is it that the people he created in Nigeria are not knowledgeable enough or not intelligent enough? Or is that they don’t know their rights? Our problems in Nigeria, let’s look at the foundation of our leadership. In the profession I know very well, the military, what we normally say is that there are no bad soldiers but bad officers. If you see a situation where the soldiers are not doing well, we need to examine the officers in charge. So it is in the family, the community, the town and the country,” he said.
President Obasanjo said his remarks about the state of the nation was not in any way an expression of a personal grudge with the President
"I have no grudges against Jonathan and I think Jonathan equally has no grudges against me. I’m not quarrelling with Jonathan but all I know is that whatever is good for Nigeria, that I’m ready to die for. I emphasize that whatever is good for Nigeria, is what I’m ready to defend with my life. Whoever, I emphasize, whoever says he would not do anything good to Nigeria, even if he says he’s ready to go ‘konko below’, I’m ready to square it up with such a person. I say again, whoever that person may be, I want you to get that correctly. If this country is going to change for the better, it would start from the top and if it’s going to be otherwise, it would start from the top, too,” the former president stressed.

Ladies loyal to Patience Jonathan sacked by Governor Dickson

There is trouble in Bayelsa. The State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has sacked the Commissioner for Local Government Administration, Marie Ebikake, and his SA on Special Projects, Remmy Kuku.

The ladies, Ebikake and Kuku, it was learnt, were allegedly fired because of their closeness to the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

There has been no love lost between Dickson and Patience over the latter’s alleged interference in the affairs of the state and plan to hijack the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party from the governor.

The sack of the two aides, which is with immediate effect, is contained in a special announcement on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

Governor Dickson had in March 2014 sacked seven commissioners in a major cabinet shake-up since his administration came on board in February 2012.

Those affected then were mostly people that could be traced to Patience Jonathan.

It will be recalled that it was during that exercise that Ebikake, who has now been removed, was redeployed from the Ministry of Transport to Local Government Administration.

The statement said the governor’s action was in line with his policy of re-organising the machinery of state to deliver on Dickson’s restoration agenda.

Female Soldiers kidnapped during Gun Battle with Boko Haram

This is big trouble! Out of 26 female soldiers posted to the military base of the Multinational Joint Task Force that was attacked and taken over by Boko Haram terrorists, only eight have so far been accounted for. Residents and security sources said the insurgent attack lasted close to 18 hours before the Islamist terrorists overpowered the troops and seized the military base.

Residents of Baga confirmed to SR that Boko Haram insurgents invaded their town and killed at least 55 people, including soldiers attached to MNJTF.

The situation is so bad that even the Military Commander of the troops in the area, Colonel Kuti, has also not been found since the insurgents attacked the town on Saturday.

One military source said the attack took them by surprise. He said the troops made a gallant effort to repel the attack, but that hundreds of Islamist militants stormed the military base with high-caliber weapons. A resident revealed that the invading insurgents also burnt down parts of the fishing town. Bukar Kaka, a fisherman who fled from the town, said no fewer than 50 villagers, including five soldiers, were killed while others sustained wounds in the attacks. He said he saw soldiers fleeing.

A security source said the insurgent invaders also stormed other neighboring communities, shooting indiscriminately at people. He added that the militants also destroyed hundreds of houses and shops, often using fuel and other explosive devices.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Senator Maina Ma’aji Lawan confirmed the insurgents’ attack on Baga and surrounding towns. He added that military troops and youth volunteers, popularly known as ‘civilian JTF, had attempted to repel the onslaught, but were overpowered by the invaders.

Looks like Boko Haram has acquired new arms, so our military need to up their game to achieve victory.

Photos: Muslims helping to guard Churches in Kaduna, Borno

Following a controversial statement by the Kaduna chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN,  led by Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; ENDS set out to verify the tympanic membrane-pleasing headline of Muslim and Christian unity and brotherly support in the nation’s oft beleaguered north.

Global media had publicized that Muslim youths volunteered to guard some Churches in Kaduna state the past Christmas.

Upon investigation and through contacting Mr. Ibrahim Mohammad, a Kaduna-based reporter with an online news media, News Rescue, we were able to solidly confirm that brave and altruistic northern Muslim youths, about 200 in number, did indeed guard Churches including the Christ Evangelical Church, Gbaghi Villa S/Tasha Kaduna of Pastor Yohanna Buru, inset.
Some of the Muslims in the spirit of tolerance and unity even joined the Christian faithful to pray in the Church this Christmas.

Pastor Buru had said, "I really appreciate their love and care… the essence of that was to protect the Christian worshippers as part of effort to strengthen peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in the state.” [BibleInc]

Further saying, “We are happy to have them in our church to come and worship with us at the same time offer us protection. I am delighted with the development. We call you here not as guests, but as brothers and neighbours.

“We urge Muslims and Christians to reconcile and forgive one another before the re-emergence of the awaited saviours.”

Pastor Yohanna Buru is well established and globally renowned for his religious tolerance, charity actions and compassion for humanity. He ought to be emulated.

Dr. Shu’aibu Musa, responding, extended a goodwill message of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria to the Christian faithful at Christmas, and called for more collaboration to rid the society of religious extremism.

Nigerians must be urged to desist from unguarded utterances and actions that help to pursue the divisive agenda of the Boko Haram terrorists, hate, power cringing politicians and other enemies of Nigeria. There has been just too much blood-shed in Nigeria and all thoughts and benevolent actions that can foster peace, tolerance and understanding in the society should be fanatically sought for and supported.

It has been a regular occurrence for Muslim and Christian youth as part of and along with the Civilian-JTF in Borno state to always guard Churches and Mosques from Boko Haram. We confirmed that this past Christmas teams of these youth started guarding Churches in Borno three days ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s to prevent terrorists form planting bombs ahead of the festivals.

Rather than divide Nigerians, the heavily sponsored actions of the power-loving politicians who thrive on disunity and strife as a tool to consolidate ethnic and religious based support is being shamed by God. Nigeria is seeing more inter-religious and ethnic peace, less riots and less enmity than ever before in the nation’s history.

Luke 9:49-50 "...we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us."

Quran 5:8: O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

This 2015, We Wish Peace and Harmony To Nigerians!
